Letter from the Recruitment Chair
Dear Potential New Members,
My name is Jessica Matusz and I am Sigma Sigma Sigma-Theta Beta’s 2018 Recruitment Director. I’m excited that you have decided to learn about Greek Life during your time at the University of Michigan-Flint!
I went through an open recruitment in Winter of 2017 and joined Tri Sigma. Greek life has brought many opportunities into my life that I would never have imagined! Since joining Tri Sigma I have become a strong leader and have held 2 chairs and 2 office positions.
Tri Sigma has also allowed me to be able to participate in many philanthropic opportunities and community service events. In May of 2018 we raised over $2,286 for the March of Dimes, an organization that funds life-saving research and programs to end premature births. Through Tri Sigma I have been able to join other Greeks in an event called Greek Day of Service where we spend the day volunteering in the Flint community.
As well as the March of Dimes our philanthropic organization, The Tri Sigma Foundation, also raises money for the Robbie Page Memorial Fund. The Robbie Page Memorial Fund was founded in 1954 after the son of our fourth national president had died from polio. Since then the foundation was able to give for research to cure polio. Today the Robbie Page Memorial Fund focuses on therapeutic play for children in long stay hospital programs and Theta Beta was able to raise funds to donate to Hurley Medical Center to make distraction bags for children.
Tri Sigma has given me a family away from home and has encouraged me to be myself while giving me constant support in every step I take through my education and personal life. Sigma Sigma Sigma-Theta Beta is a great organization to get involved with to learn about yourself and how you can play a positive role in the community.
I look forward to seeing you all in the fall!
